Enclosed 3D Printers: Which Ones Are Actually Enclosed, and Which Are Heated

“Enclosed” covers two very different things. Passive enclosures (Bambu P1S, P2S, X1C; Creality K1C, K1 Max; Elegoo Centauri Carbon; Anycubic Kobra S1; Flashforge AD5M Pro) warm to about 40 °C from the bed and make ABS and ASA reliable. Heated chambers (Qidi Q2, Plus 4, Max 4; Creality K2 Plus; Bambu H2S, H2D; Prusa CORE One) hold 55 to 65 °C and unlock nylon, PC and PPA. Match the level to your filaments; PLA needs neither.
Where to buy
Two levels of enclosure
| Level | Chamber temp | Materials it makes reliable | Materials still marginal |
|---|---|---|---|
| Open frame | Room | PLA, PETG, TPU | ABS, ASA warp |
| Passive enclosure | About 35 to 45 °C | ABS, ASA, small nylon parts | Large nylon, PC, PPA crack |
| Heated chamber | 55 to 65 °C | Nylon, PC, PA-CF, PPA-CF, PPS-CF | PEEK and PEI need 90 °C+ (industrial) |

Which level do you need
- PLA and PETG only: none. An open A1 or AD5M prints them better with free airflow; see PETG and enclosures.
- ABS and ASA: passive is enough at 256 mm. The Centauri Carbon and P2S are the value picks.
- Nylon, PC, fibre blends regularly: heated. The Qidi Q2 is the cheapest entry; see layer cracking for why.
Enclosing an open printer
A tent or cabinet around an A1 or Ender gets you a passive enclosure for small ABS parts; it never gets you a heated chamber. See enclosures.
The units in the box
The listings are the Bambu P1S, the Elegoo Centauri Carbon and the Creality K1C, the three most-bought passive enclosures.
FAQ
Can I print PLA in a heated chamber? With the heater off and the door open, yes; hot chambers soften PLA overhangs.
Does an enclosure reduce noise and fumes? Noise a little; fumes only with a filter.
