Short answer

The Kobra 3 Max is a 420 × 420 × 500 mm open bedslinger with a 300 °C hotend, 600 mm/s rated speed, 10000 mm/s² and, in the Combo, the ACE Pro for up to eight colours. It is the only 400 mm class printer with a mainstream multi-colour system. Large PLA and PETG are its home; ABS at this size on an open frame is not. Based on manufacturer data and owner reports.

What it is for

Helmets and armour in one piece, large multi-colour signage, planters and batch plates. It is the machine for people who want big and colourful in one purchase. On a 420 mm moving bed, realistic speed for tall parts is a fraction of 600 mm/s; owners run 150 to 250 mm/s and a 0.6 mm nozzle.

Limits

  • Open frame. ABS and ASA warp at this size, and there is no official enclosure.
  • Bedslinger mass. Tall parts show ringing above moderate speeds.
  • Purge waste scales with the model; eight-colour prints on large parts consume a lot of filament.
  • A 420 mm bed needs a careful mesh and a spare plate.

Alternatives

The Ender-5 Max is a 400 mm cube frame, faster on large parts and with an optional enclosure, but single-colour. The Neptune 4 Max is cheaper and slower with an 85 °C bed. The Kobra 3 Max is the choice when multi-colour at size is the point.

FAQ
