A1 mini AMS: What Fits and What It Cannot Feed

The A1 mini takes the AMS lite, the same open four-spool unit the full-size A1 uses. It is 397 x 208 x 342 mm and 1.6 kg, so it is physically larger than the printer it feeds. It reads RFID on Bambu filament, does not dry anything, and will not feed TPU, TPE, wet PVA or BVOH, or any carbon or glass filled filament. The A1 mini Combo is the cheaper way to get both.
The odd thing about pairing an AMS lite with an A1 mini is the footprint: the changer takes up more bench than the printer. That surprises people who bought the mini specifically to save space, so it is worth measuring before you order.
Everything else about it is the same well-judged system that ships with the A1.
Where to buy
Same AMS lite, smaller printer
There is no mini version of the AMS lite. The unit that pairs with an A1 mini is the standard AMS lite: four spring-loaded rotary spool holders that grip each spool through the centre hole, a translucent shell, and a filament hub that feeds the extruder. Because the holders grip the hub rather than clamping the rim, paper and cardboard spools work, which is not true of every sealed system.
It is a single unit. Unlike the sealed AMS on P1 and X1 machines, which chains up to four units for sixteen filaments, the AMS lite is four slots and that is the ceiling.
Supported filament, and the hard limits
Runs fine: PLA, PETG, ASA, PET, PA, PC, dried PVA, dried BVOH, PP, POM, HIPS and Bambu PLA-CF.
Not recommended: Bambu PLA Glow, Bambu PETG-CF, and generic glow-in-the-dark PLA. Glow additive and chopped fibre are abrasive and cause loading errors.
Unsupported: TPE, TPU, wet PVA, wet BVOH, PET-CF, PA6-CF, TPU 95A and other fibre-filled filament. Too soft, too brittle or too abrasive all fail the same way.
Spools must be 40 to 68 mm wide with a 53 to 58 mm inner hole. Outside that, the rotary holder cannot seat the spool properly.
Why it is worth having on the small machine
Two reasons that have nothing to do with printing rainbows. Filament backup lets you load the same material twice so a long print continues onto the second spool when the first runs out, which matters more on a small printer where multi-part models take several sessions. And support interfaces get much easier: a second slot with snap-away or dissolvable support turns fiddly cleanup into a clean break.
If you are printing small, detailed models, the second point is the real payoff. Filament drying is not part of the package though, so keep spools in a dry box between prints. Our notes on drying filament cover the routine.
Combo, or add it later
The A1 mini Combo bundles printer and AMS lite for less than buying them separately, and it is the normal way people buy this pair. The printer alone is complete: nothing about single-colour printing needs the changer, and adding one later is a plug-in job.
The one thing to settle first is space. Printer plus AMS lite side by side needs roughly 700 mm of bench width. If your reason for choosing the mini was a tight desk, either plan the layout properly or skip the changer.
