Short answer

The X-Max 3 is a 325 × 325 × 315 mm enclosed CoreXY with a 65 °C chamber and 350 °C hotend; the Max 4 replaces it at 390 × 390 × 340 mm with the same chamber class and the Qidi Box multi-colour option. Both are for large nylon, PC and fibre-blend parts. Buy the Max 4 new; the X-Max 3 only discounted. The Creality K2 Plus is the direct rival.

What the size buys

At 390 mm the Max 4 is the largest heated-chamber printer near its price. That matters for engineering filaments specifically: a 350 mm ASA enclosure or a 300 mm nylon bracket prints without warping or cracking only inside a warm chamber, and open 400 mm printers cannot do it at all.

Against the K2 Plus

The Creality K2 Plus is 350 mm cubed with a 60 °C chamber, 350 °C hotend and native 16-colour CFS, with a much larger community. The Max 4 is bigger and reaches the same chamber class; Qidi’s software and spares are thinner. Buyers who want multi-colour at scale lean K2 Plus; buyers who want the biggest heated volume lean Max 4. See the K2 Plus page.

Practicalities

  • A 390 mm heated bed plus chamber heater is a serious power draw; use a dedicated circuit.
  • Warm-up to 65 °C takes time; batch your engineering prints.
  • PLA needs the door open. See the Qidi lineup for smaller models if PLA is most of your printing.
