Qidi Slicer: An OrcaSlicer Fork, and When to Use Plain Orca Instead

Qidi Slicer is OrcaSlicer with Qidi’s machine profiles, chamber temperature control and their high-temperature material presets added. Download it from Qidi’s own site rather than the SD card. If you only own Qidi printers it is the convenient choice; if you own several brands, plain OrcaSlicer handles them all and stays closer to current.
Qidi made a better decision than most vendors here: they forked OrcaSlicer rather than an old Cura release, so their slicer starts from a modern base and inherits the calibration suite.

What the Qidi profiles actually add
Two things that matter on their enclosed machines. Chamber temperature control, which upstream Orca’s generic profiles do not expose in the same way, and presets for the high-temperature materials Qidi’s hotends are built for — PA-CF, PPA-CF and PPS-CF among them. On a Plus 4 those presets save real setup time.

Qidi’s own download page. The copy on the supplied SD card is fixed at whatever shipped with the machine and will already be behind. This is the same advice as for every bundled slicer.
When plain OrcaSlicer is better
Three cases. If you own printers from more than one brand, one slicer for all of them beats learning several. If you want the newest Orca features, the fork trails upstream by a release or two, as forks do. And if you are following a tutorial written for Orca, menus occasionally sit in different places.
You can add a Qidi machine to plain OrcaSlicer by hand — bed size, nozzle, chamber and start G-code — which is a twenty-minute job that then keeps you on upstream permanently.
The fork landscape
Qidi and Flashforge fork OrcaSlicer; Creality, Elegoo and Anycubic fork Cura, mostly older releases. Yes, as is upstream OrcaSlicer. There is no paid tier for either.
Can I use OrcaSlicer instead of Qidi Slicer?
Yes. You add the printer manually or import the Qidi profile. You keep the calibration suite and stay on the newest release.
Does Qidi Slicer work with non-Qidi printers?
Technically yes, since it is Orca underneath, but there is no reason to choose it for another brand. Use upstream Orca.
Why is a feature I read about missing?
The fork is behind upstream. Check the version against current OrcaSlicer; if the feature is newer than the fork’s base, that is the explanation.
