HMS 0700-2000-0002-0011: AMS Slot Filament Retraction Timed Out

HMS 0700-2000-0002-0011 means AMS A Slot 1 tried to retract the filament and the operation timed out. Retraction is the harder direction, because the filament is being dragged backwards through every collet it passed on the way in, so this code finds faults the loading direction hides.
Anything that grips on the way back — a worn collet, a bulge in the filament, a bad splice — shows up here first.

Where to buy
Secure the collets so the tube cannot creep
Small collet clips snap over each fitting and stop the tube backing out under retraction load. They cost a few dollars for a bag and remove a whole class of intermittent fault permanently.
Take the friction out of the feed path
A four-in-one PTFE adapter replaces the crowded bundle of tubes where the AMS feeds into the hub with a single moulded port. Fewer sharp entries means less of the drag that only shows itself when the filament is being pulled back.
Join the ends properly if you splice
A knot or a taped join will not go back through a collet. A filament welder makes a joint the same diameter as the filament, which is the only kind that survives a retraction.
Then follow the path for friction
A tube with a tight bend behind the machine feels fine when you push and fights you when you pull. Re-route it with a generous radius and retry before changing any part.
How HMS 0700-2000-0002-0011 pairs with the feed-out code
The same timeout while loading is HMS 0700-2000-0002-0010. One direction failing means something directional, such as a collet; both failing means general drag.
When something is genuinely stuck
A filament or buffer that will not move at all reports HMS 0700-2000-0002-000A rather than a timeout. The routing is described in the AMS hub guide, and Bowden behaviour in direct drive versus Bowden.
HMS 0700-2000-0002-0011 FAQ
Why does retraction fail when loading works?
Because collet teeth grip in the direction that pulls the tube out.
Is a tangled spool really the cause?
Often. The slack has to go somewhere, and a crossed wrap locks it.
Can I splice filament for the AMS?
Only with a welded joint at full diameter. Tape will jam.
Does retraction distance in the slicer matter?
Not for this. The AMS runs its own load and unload moves.
Retraction needs the reel to co-operate. HMS 0700-2000-0002-0024 means the AMS failed to rotate the spool while pulling filament back, because the filament has to go somewhere.
