HMS 0700-2000-0002-0010: AMS Slot Feeds Filament Out of AMS Timeout

HMS 0700-2000-0002-0010 means AMS A Slot 1 fed filament out of the AMS but timed out before the filament reached where it was expected. A timeout is a speed complaint rather than a blockage, and the commonest cause of a slow feed is drag that was not there last month.
Filament that has absorbed moisture swells, roughens and binds in a tube sized for dry stock. That is the first thing to rule out.

Dry the spool before you blame the hardware
A filament dryer box pulls the water back out over a few hours, and a spool that has sat open for a month on a humid week is a different diameter from the one you bought. The change is small and the extra friction over two metres of tube is not.
Keep the next one dry instead
Resealable desiccant packs in the storage box cost almost nothing and stop the problem recurring. The reusable kind go back in the oven or the dryer and last for years.
Measure the room rather than guessing
A small digital hygrometer in the storage box tells you whether your filament is actually at risk. Below about forty per cent relative humidity you can stop worrying; well above it, the dryer is not optional.
Then look at the path
If the filament is dry and the feed still times out, the tube run is adding friction: a tight bend, a tired collet, or a tube that has partly pulled out. All three are visible once you follow the path end to end.
How HMS 0700-2000-0002-0010 differs from a retraction timeout
The same complaint in the other direction is HMS 0700-2000-0002-0011. If both appear, the drag is in the path and affects both directions equally.
When the path is broken rather than tight
A detached or split tube gives HMS 0700-2000-0002-0006 instead. Moisture effects are covered in drying filament, and the machines themselves in filament dryers.
HMS 0700-2000-0002-0010 FAQ
Does damp filament really cause this?
Yes. It swells and roughens, and both add drag over a long Bowden path.
How long should I dry a spool?
Follow the material’s figure. PLA needs less than nylon by a wide margin.
Could the spool be binding?
Possibly, but that usually shows as a motor overload code instead.
Will a reboot clear it?
It clears the message. It does not clear the drag.
Sometimes the slot simply reached the end. HMS 0700-2000-0002-0001 means the filament has run out, which is not a fault at all but is worth planning around.
