HMS 0700-2000-0002-0016 — Assist motor has slipped
Short answer

HMS 0700-2000-0002-0016 means the AMS A Slot 1 assist motor has slipped, and tells you to pull out the filament, cut off the worn part, and try again. The drive gear has ground a flat on the filament, and a flat gives the gear nothing left to grip.

Follow the instruction first. Then ask why it slipped, because filament does not develop a flat on its own.

The message gives you the repair: cut off the worn part.

Where to buy

Cut well past the damage

A precision hobby knife lets you take the chewed section off square without crushing the filament the way blunt snips do. Cut generously: the ground section is usually longer than it looks.

Look at the drive gear while the filament is out

Teeth packed with ground plastic grip nothing, and teeth that have worn smooth grip even less. A hardened steel drive gear is the lasting answer on a unit that has done a lot of work, and it is a straightforward swap.

Grease the right things, sparingly

A grease sold for printer lead screws and gears, on the gear shaft and bearings, reduces the load the motor is fighting. Keep it off the filament path: grease on filament ends up in the hotend.

Then remove whatever caused the resistance

A motor slips because something downstream is holding the filament. If the flat comes back within a few loads, the cause is in the path and not at the gear.

How HMS 0700-2000-0002-0016 differs from a stuck spool

A reel that will not turn at all reports HMS 0700-2000-0002-0024. Slipping means the motor turned and the filament did not follow.

What it leads to

A chewed section that then snaps gives HMS 0700-2000-0002-0015. The drive hardware differs by machine — see the X1C with AMS and the AMS hub guide.

HMS 0700-2000-0002-0016 FAQ

How much should I cut off?

Past every mark the gear left. Err generous.

Why did it slip?

Resistance downstream, worn teeth, or packed teeth. Often all three.

Can I clean the gear?

Yes, with a brush and a pick. Do that before replacing it.

Does grease help?

On shafts and bearings, yes. Never on the filament path.
