HMS 0700-2000-0002-0024 — Could not rotate the spool on unload
Short answer

HMS 0700-2000-0002-0024 means AMS A Slot 1 failed to rotate the filament spool when pulling filament back into the AMS. Unloading winds filament back onto the reel, so a reel that will not turn stops the operation dead.

It is a mechanical complaint about the spool, not about the motor that drives it.

Unloading needs the reel to turn. This one would not.
Unloading needs the reel to turn. This one would not.

Where to buy

Measure the force the reel needs

A digital pull gauge hooked to the filament tells you how many newtons it takes to start the reel turning, and that number is what the assist motor is up against. A reel that needs twice what another one does is the problem, and now you can prove it.

Let the reel turn freely

A turntable bearing under the spool removes almost all the starting friction, and starting friction is what the assist motor actually fights when it begins to wind back. They cost a few dollars and fit most holders.

Stop the unit walking while it works

Anti-vibration pads under the AMS keep it still, and a unit that shifts an inch mid-unload puts a sideways load on the whole path. It is a small thing that removes an intermittent.

Then look at the reel itself

Warped cardboard sides and moulded reels with rough flanges both bind. If one particular brand does this repeatedly, that is data worth acting on — see also the SUNLU reels.

How HMS 0700-2000-0002-0024 differs from a slipping motor

If the motor turns but the filament does not move with it, you get HMS 0700-2000-0002-0016 instead. This code means the motor could not turn the reel at all.

What it leads to if ignored

Filament held under load at a tight radius eventually snaps, which is HMS 0700-2000-0002-0015. Reel quality by brand is discussed in the best filament brands.

HMS 0700-2000-0002-0024 FAQ

Why does unloading turn the spool?

The filament has to go back onto the reel. Nowhere else to put it.

Is this the same as a motor overload?

Related, but this code names the spool specifically.

Do cardboard spools cause it?

More often than plastic ones, especially after damp.

Can I unload by hand instead?

Yes, release the slot and draw the filament out gently.
