HMS 0300-C100-0001-0001: adaptive airflow cannot enter cooling mode

HMS 0300-C100-0001-0001 means the adaptive airflow system cannot switch into cooling mode, and the printer asks you to check the air door. On these machines the chamber does not just heat: it also vents, and the door that lets it vent is a moving part with a motor, a linkage and a position sensor. Any of the three can stop it.
Affected machines: H2, P2S and X2D. Adaptive airflow is what lets one enclosed machine print both ABS, which wants a warm sealed chamber, and PLA, which wants the heat out. Cooling mode is the PLA half of that, so this fault mostly bites the people printing the easiest material.

What actually stops the door
In order of likelihood: something physically in the way, usually a print or a piece of purge waste that has migrated to the back of the chamber. A linkage that has come off its pin after a knock. A motor or position sensor connector that has worked loose. And, least often, a failed actuator.
A useful test costs nothing: power down and move the door by hand through its full travel. If it moves freely and returns, the mechanism is fine and you are looking at electronics or a sensor. If it binds, you have found the fault without opening anything electrical.

Obstructed or jammed air door, a detached linkage, or a loose actuator connector
- Power off at the wall and let the chamber cool.
- Look into the air door path with a torch, including behind the plate where purge waste collects.
- Move the door by hand through its travel. Note whether it binds, and where.
- Check the linkage between the actuator and the door for a pin or clip that has come adrift.
- Reseat the actuator and position sensor connectors.
- Power up and watch the door during the start-up self-test. It should move to both extremes without hesitation.
Until it is fixed, prefer materials that want a warm chamber. ABS and ASA will print normally with the door shut; PLA in a sealed chamber softens in the heat break and gives you the jam you were trying to avoid.

Can I still print with this code?
ABS and ASA are fine. PLA will run hotter than it should and is more likely to jam on long prints.
Is there a part I can buy for this?
Not usually. It is a mechanism and a connector rather than a consumable, which is why the tools here are the useful purchase.
Why does it appear at the start of a print?
Because the printer sets the airflow mode for the material before it starts, and that is when it discovers the door will not move.
Can I leave the chamber door open instead?
For PLA that helps in the short term, but the machine will keep reporting the fault and its fan logic will still be wrong.
