HMS 0500-0400-0003-0008 means the door is detected to be open. Sometimes that is simply true. When it is not, the door is closing but not quite latching, or the sensor is no longer seeing it, and both have cheap mechanical fixes.
A door that has been opened a few thousand times stops sitting where it did when the machine was new.

Where to buy
Make it latch properly again
A slim magnetic cabinet catch pulls the door that last couple of millimetres closed, which is usually all that is missing. It mounts with adhesive or a screw and takes a few minutes.
Stop it being slammed
A soft-close hinge damper takes the shock out of the closing action. Doors that get slammed are doors whose hinges loosen, and a loose hinge is what moves the door away from the sensor.
Replace a panel that has gone cloudy
A clear acrylic sheet cut to size restores a door panel that has crazed or been scratched opaque. It is also worth knowing the material if you ever want to change the panel for a tinted one.
Then check the sensor itself
Close the door slowly and watch when the message clears. If it never clears with the door shut, the sensor or its magnet has moved rather than the door.
How HMS 0500-0400-0003-0008 relates to chamber temperature
An open door is sometimes requested deliberately, as in HMS 0500-0400-0003-0009, where the machine asks you to keep it open.
When a door is part of a safety case
On laser work the enclosure matters, as in HMS 0500-0400-0002-0050. Chamber behaviour is covered in printer enclosures and ASA warping.
HMS 0500-0400-0003-0008 FAQ
Can I print with the door open?
With PLA, usually. With ABS or ASA it will warp.
Why does it show with the door shut?
The door is not latching, or the sensor has moved.
Does it stop the print?
It can pause laser work. Printing usually continues.
Is the sensor adjustable?
Its magnet usually is. Fix the latch first.
