Bambu P1S vs X1C: Is the Lidar and Carbon Worth the Gap

Diagram comparing build volumes at the same scale: P1S at 256 by 256 by 256 mm and X1 Carbon at 256 by 256 by 256 mm.
Short answer

The X1 Carbon is a P1S with a 120 °C bed, lidar-based flow and first-layer inspection, a 1080p camera, a touchscreen, hardened-steel extruder and nozzle from the factory, and a carbon-fibre frame. Same 256 mm bed, same enclosure, same AMS. Most hobby users get the same prints from a P1S; buy the X1C for abrasive filaments and unattended production.

What the X1C adds that matters

  • Abrasives out of the box. Hardened gear and nozzle mean PLA-CF, PETG-CF and PA-CF do not chew up the drive train. On the P1S those are a day-one upgrade.
  • Unattended first layers. The lidar scans the first layer and halts on a bad one, which is the value proposition for farms and overnight jobs.
  • 120 °C bed. Extra margin for PC and ABS on a full plate.

What it does not add

A heated chamber, a bigger bed or a higher nozzle temperature. For PC, PA and PPA the actual step up is the H2 series, not the X1C. Print quality on PLA and PETG is the same as the P1S because the motion system is the same.

The 2026 problem

The X1C now sits between the P2S, which has a better camera and hotend than the X1C, and the X2D, which adds a second nozzle and tool changer. If the choice is P1S vs X1C at current prices, the honest recommendation for most buyers is neither: the P2S covers the camera and screen gap, and a hardened hotend covers the abrasives gap. The X1C keeps its case where lidar first-layer inspection is worth paying for.

The units in the box

The X1 Carbon is not sold on Amazon US, so the listings show the P1S alone and the P1S Combo. The X1C is bought direct from Bambu Lab.

FAQ
