Bambu Lab X1C Combo: Printer Plus Sealed AMS

The X1C Combo is the X1 Carbon bundled with the sealed AMS. You get 256 x 256 x 256 mm, a 300 degC nozzle, a 120 degC plate, a 60 degC chamber, a hardened steel nozzle and the 7 micron Micro Lidar, plus four automated filament slots. The bundle is cheaper than buying the two separately, and on an enclosed machine with a warm chamber the changer is more useful than on any open printer, because multi-colour ABS and ASA actually work. One buying note: Bambu sells the A1, P1S and P2S through Amazon, while the X1 Carbon is generally a direct purchase.
Combo versions exist because the changer is the accessory almost everyone eventually buys. Bundling it costs less than a second order, and it saves the later question of whether your shelf is tall enough.

What is in the box, and what it does
The printer: enclosed CoreXY at 256 x 256 x 256 mm, 300 degC nozzle, 120 degC plate, 60 degC chamber, 500 mm/s, hardened steel nozzle as standard, 14.13 kg.
The changer: the sealed four-slot AMS, an airtight shell with desiccant that reads RFID tags on Bambu filament and applies the right profile automatically. A P1 or X1 series printer chains up to four AMS units for sixteen filaments, so the combo is a starting point rather than a ceiling.
The lidar is what makes the pair work reliably. At 7 micron resolution it inspects the first layer and measures extrusion flow, which matters more when the machine is switching between materials that behave differently. Micro Lidar is exclusive to the X series.
Why the combo makes more sense on an X1C than on an open machine
Every colour change adds purge, travel and dwell time, during which the part sits cooling. On an open printer that is precisely the condition that makes ABS warp and delaminate, so multi-colour engineering material is a gamble. Inside a 60 degC chamber the part stays warm through the change, which is why multi-material ABS and ASA are realistic here and not elsewhere in the range below the H2D.
That is the specific argument for buying the combo on this machine rather than the printer alone.
What the sealed AMS will not do
It does not dry filament. It is an airtight box with desiccant, which slows moisture pickup but cannot remove moisture already absorbed. If drying matters, the AMS 2 Pro reaches 65 degC with auto-rotating spools, but connecting one to an X1 series printer needs an AMS Hub (part SA002-N) and a switching adapter per unit for the drying function.
It also will not feed everything. Treat TPU and TPE as unsupported and run flexibles from an external spool holder. Wet PVA and BVOH are out. Carbon and glass filled filaments feed but wear the path, so keep spare hardened nozzles. Warped cardboard spools cause most of the load errors people blame on the changer.

Combo or printer alone
Buy the combo if multi-colour, automatic filament switching or dissolvable supports are anywhere in your plans, because the bundled price beats the parts and adding a unit later means a second shipment. Buy the printer alone if you are certain you only print single-colour and you already own a filament dryer, since the X1 Carbon is a complete machine without it.
