Revopoint 3D Scanners: POP 4, MetroX and Which One for Printing Work

Revopoint sells the two scanners most printer owners cross-shop: the POP 4, an infrared structured-light handheld with colour texture for objects and people, and the MetroX, a blue-laser scanner for accurate capture of mechanical parts including dark and shiny ones. Buy the POP 4 for sculpts, busts and props; buy the MetroX for reverse engineering. Both need Revo Scan software, a turntable for small parts, and matte spray for difficult surfaces.

Which one for what
- Cosplay reference, busts, figures, organic shapes: POP 4. Colour texture helps for painting reference. Premium bundle if you do not own a turntable and power bank.
- Brackets, housings, adapters, anything that must fit: MetroX. The laser mode handles machined aluminium and black plastic that defeat structured light.
- Both jobs, one budget: MetroX; it does organic shapes acceptably, the POP 4 does not do mechanical accuracy.
Workflow to a printable part
- Spray difficult surfaces; add markers or use the turntable.
- Scan in several passes; align and fuse in Revo Scan; export STL or OBJ.
- Clean the mesh; for fits, import into CAD and rebuild the critical features with real dimensions.
- Print a test fit before the final part. See prototyping printers.
Limits
Consumer scanners do not replace calipers for bores and threads, lose tracking on featureless surfaces, and produce meshes that need work. See scanners for 3D printing for the accuracy each job needs and handheld scanners for the rivals.
