A 3D scanner for printing has two jobs: capture a part so you can reprint or modify it, and capture an object or person to print as a model. Fits need 0.05 to 0.1 mm accuracy, which means a structured-light or blue-laser scanner in the Revopoint MetroX class; sculpts and busts tolerate 0.3 mm, which the POP 4 class handles. Every consumer scanner struggles with shiny, black and transparent surfaces and needs scanning spray. Scanning is the start of a CAD job, not a replacement for one.

What scanners cannot do
- Produce a printable CAD model. A scan is a mesh with noise; you clean it, then rebuild features in CAD for anything that must fit.
- Capture shiny, black or transparent parts without matte scanning spray.
- Read internal geometry: threads, bores and hidden faces need calipers and CAD.

The step up from a POP
The POP 4 and the MetroX Pro are the sensible places to start, and for most people scanning next to a computer they are the right answer. The MIRACO Plus is an all-in-one: it carries its own screen and processor, so it scans with nothing tethered to it. It costs roughly two to three times a POP 4.
That premium buys freedom of movement, not accuracy. If your scanning happens at a desk with a laptop already open, you are paying for a computer you do not need.
