Short answer

The Prusa XL+ is a 360 × 360 × 360 mm CoreXY with one to five independent toolheads, a 290 °C Nextruder per head, 120 °C segmented bed and an optional enclosure reaching 50 °C, 60 °C with a heater. A toolchanger swaps whole hotends, so multi-material prints have no purge waste and can mix nozzle sizes and rigid, flexible and soluble filaments in one job. It is a workshop machine; for hobby multi-colour, AMS-style systems are cheaper.

What a toolchanger solves

  • No purge. AMS, CFS and MMU systems flush filament on every change; the XL swaps heads. A five-material job wastes nothing.
  • Mixed nozzles. A 0.25 mm head for detail and a 0.8 mm head for infill in the same print.
  • Incompatible materials. Rigid PETG, flexible TPU and soluble support each keep their own hotend; no cross-contamination.
  • Print farms. Segmented bed and toolheads that can be swapped without recalibration.

Who does not need it

Anyone whose multi-colour need is PLA logos and toys; the purge on an A1 Combo is a nuisance, not a cost that justifies this machine. Anyone who needs a heated chamber more than tools; the Bambu H2D reaches 65 °C with two nozzles, see XL vs H2D. Anyone who needs 400 mm; the XL is 360 mm.

Buying path

Start with one toolhead and add heads later; the frame is ready. The Enclosure XL+ is a separate purchase and only fits the XL+. Keep a second sheet on hand.

The units in the box

The listings are the XL assembled with one toolhead, the CORE One+ for the smaller enclosed option and the MK4S assembled. Prusa direct is the usual purchase route.

FAQ

Can the XL print two objects at once? No; the tools share one gantry and print sequentially within a layer.

Is the XL enclosed? Not by default; the enclosure is optional.
