Prusa Error 31260 — Chamber overheating on the CORE One
Short answer

Prusa error 31260 means the CORE One measured chamber temperature above its safety limit and is asking for better ventilation. On an actively enclosed printer that usually means the exhaust path is blocked or closed, the room is hot, or you are printing a material that does not want a hot chamber at all — PLA being the obvious one.

An enclosed printer is a box containing two heaters. Without a way for heat to leave, chamber temperature only goes one direction. That is exactly what you want for ABS and exactly what you do not want for PLA.

What each material wants from the chamber. Chamber heat helps ABS and hurts PLA — open the vent for the easy materials.

Where to buy

Check in this order

  1. The exhaust fan and vent flap. Confirm the fan runs and that the vent is open. A vent taped shut — or a filter never cleaned — produces this within an hour.
  2. What are you printing? PLA in a closed chamber will overheat it. Open the vent for PLA and PETG; save the sealed chamber for ABS, ASA and PC.
  3. Room temperature. Ambient adds directly. A machine that is fine at 20 °C can trip at 30 °C with nothing else changed.
  4. Intake clearance. Pushed against a wall or boxed into a cabinet, the printer has nowhere to draw cool air from.

Why the limit exists

Above a certain chamber temperature, PLA parts sag while printing, filament softens in the path, and the printer’s own plastic components start to matter. Prusa set the ceiling below the point where any of that happens, which is why the message is a stop rather than a warning. The related failure on the electronics side is covered in 13213.

Ventilation done properly

An enclosure needs both an inlet and an outlet, not just a fan. Blowing air into a sealed box achieves very little. What each material actually wants from a chamber is in building an enclosure, and the filtration side in exhaust and filtration. For the materials that genuinely need the heat, see ABS and ASA.

The same error reads 35260 on CORE One L, 36260 on CORE One INDX and 17260 on XL.

Prusa Error 31260 FAQ

Should I print PLA with the chamber closed?

No. PLA does not benefit from a warm chamber and suffers in one. Open the vent, or run the printer with the door ajar if the design allows.

What chamber temperature is safe?

Up to roughly 50–60 °C for ABS and ASA on machines designed for it. Above that you start risking the printer’s own components, which is where the limit sits.

Why does this happen only in summer?

Because ambient temperature adds to chamber temperature directly. The same print that was fine in winter can trip the limit in a warm room.

Does a filter cause overheating?

A clogged one does, by restricting the exhaust path. Clean or replace it on a schedule rather than waiting for the error.
