Overture PETG: The Reference Mid-Range PETG, and How to Print It Without Strings

Short answer

Overture PETG is the safe first PETG: tight tolerance, consistent colour between batches, and a blend that tolerates both a slow bed-slinger and a fast CoreXY printer. Dry it at 65 °C for 6 hours before printing, use 235 to 250 °C at the nozzle, a 75 to 85 °C bed and textured PEI, and most of what people call PETG problems never appear.

Overture PETG shows up in more slicer PETG profiles than almost any other spool because it behaves like the textbook says PETG should. That makes it a good spool to learn the material on: when it strings or bubbles, the cause is your setup or your drying, not a quirk of the filament. The high-speed variant keeps that predictability at CoreXY speeds.

The lines

  • Overture PETG. Standard PETG, 230 to 250 °C, ±0.03 mm. The everyday functional-parts spool.
  • Overture High Speed PETG. Lower viscosity for printers running above 150 mm/s; prints fine slow.
  • Overture Easy PETG where sold: a blend tuned to string less on Bowden printers at the cost of slightly lower toughness.

What to check on the spool

  • Tolerance stated at ±0.03 mm or better.
  • Vacuum seal with desiccant. Overture packs well; bundles can be an exception.
  • Plastic spool, fits dryers and multi-material units.
  • Colour. Overture’s black, white and grey PETG are the consistent workhorses; translucent colours print clear when done slow.

The spools in the box

Settings that work

  1. Dry at 65 °C for 6 hours. Print from a dry box or the dryer.
  2. Nozzle 235 to 245 °C standard, 245 to 255 °C high-speed. Bed 75 to 85 °C.
  3. Fan 30 to 50 %. Full fan weakens layers; none makes overhangs sag.
  4. Retraction slightly longer than PLA with a 0.2 mm Z-hop. If it still strings, dry longer.
  5. Textured PEI. Glue stick if smooth PEI is all you have.

When to buy something else

Does Overture PETG work in a Bambu AMS? Yes; dry it first and pick the generic PETG profile.
