HMS 07FE-8100-0001-0001: Switching Motor Abnormal

HMS 07FE-8100-0001-0001 means the extruder switching motor is working abnormally, and asks you to check whether the connecting cable is loose. A stepper that is fed three good phases and one intermittent one behaves exactly like a failing motor, which is why the cable comes first.
Motors are among the most reliable parts in a printer. The connectors feeding them are not.

Where to buy
Know what the replacement would be
A NEMA 17 in the right body length is the standard part here, and knowing the frame size and current rating before you need one turns a failure into an order rather than an investigation.
Remake the connector properly
A JST-XH socket kit with pre-crimped leads lets you rebuild the motor plug without owning a crimp press. A remade connector is the fix for most faults that present as an abnormal motor.
Reach the plug without dismantling the head
Long needle-nose pliers get to a latch buried behind the toolhead shroud. Forcing a plug out by pulling the wires is how a loose connection becomes a broken one.
Then measure the windings
With the motor unplugged, measure each coil pair. Two similar readings and two open ones mean a broken wire; four similar readings mean the motor is fine and the fault is upstream.
How HMS 07FE-8100-0001-0001 differs from a board dropout
The TH board losing its link mid-move is HMS 07FE-8000-0001-0006. This code is the motor circuit specifically rather than the whole board.
When the position sensor is the problem
An open Hall signal reports HMS 07FE-8000-0001-0002. How these motors are driven is in stepper motors and the machine in the Bambu Lab H2D.
HMS 07FE-8100-0001-0001 FAQ
Is the motor usually the fault?
No. The cable and the plug are far more likely.
What should the coils read?
A few ohms each, and the two pairs should match.
Can I swap in any NEMA 17?
Frame length and current rating have to match. Check both.
Does it stop printing entirely?
Switching stops, so dual-material work does.
A coil has a number you can measure. HMS 0700-9000-0001-0002 means the coil resistance of the AMS exhaust valve is abnormal, which is either the wiring to it or the solenoid itself.
