HMS 0700-9600-0002-0002 means the ambient temperature of the AMS is too low, which may affect drying performance. Nothing has failed: the heater simply cannot reach its target starting from a cold garage, so the drying will be less effective than you expect.
Drying works by holding filament above a temperature for hours. A room that pulls heat out faster than the heater puts it in moves that target out of reach.

Where to buy
Use a dryer that does not depend on the room
A dedicated filament dryer with its own fan and seal reaches temperature in a cold space where an AMS struggles. On a machine in an unheated workshop it is the fix rather than a workaround.
Raise the room, not just the box
A small ceramic heater brings a cold workshop into the range the AMS was designed for. It also helps everything else in the room, including the printer itself and the filament waiting to be used.
Stop the heat leaving
Reflective insulation behind and under the machine cuts the loss into a cold wall or a concrete floor. It is cheap, it is passive, and in a garage it is often worth more than another heater.
Then check what the room is actually doing
Measure the room temperature where the AMS sits rather than where you stand. A floor-level reading in a garage is often several degrees below head height.
How HMS 0700-9600-0002-0002 differs from a runaway
Heat going out of control is HMS 0700-9600-0001-0001, which is the opposite problem and far more serious.
What else affects drying
A disconnected humidity sensor is HMS 0700-3500-0001-0002. Method and expectations are in drying filament and desiccant choices.
HMS 0700-9600-0002-0002 FAQ
Will drying still run?
It will, and it will take longer and work less well.
What temperature does it want?
Normal room temperature. A cold garage is the usual cause.
Does insulation really help?
Against a cold floor or wall, measurably.
Is this a fault to report?
No. It is the machine describing your room.
Storage shows up as a mechanical complaint. HMS 0700-6000-0002-0001 means AMS slot 1 is overloaded, and brittle filament that snaps is one of the common reasons the feed motor has to pull harder.
