HMS 0700-2000-0002-0017 means the AMS A Slot 1 assist motor stalled because of excessive resistance in the tube between the AMS and the printer. That is the longest section of the whole path, so it is also the one most likely to be routed badly.
Four codes in this family each name a different segment. This one sends you to the external run, which is the part you can see without opening anything.

Where to buy
Replace a tired run rather than fighting it
A tube that has been bent to the same radius for a year takes a set and never recovers its bore. A ten-metre roll of PTFE in the 2 mm bore gives you enough to redo every external run on the machine and keep a spare, for less than a spool of filament.
Measure the bend instead of eyeballing it
A digital angle finder against the tube tells you whether that corner behind the printer is the gentle curve you think it is. Anything approaching a right angle is where the resistance lives, and your eye consistently flatters it.
Support the run so it keeps its shape
Adhesive tie mounts along the back of the bench hold the tube in a wide arc instead of letting it sag into a kink. A few cents of plastic is what stops the fault returning next month.
Then retry before changing anything else
Re-route, reload the slot, and watch. If the stall has gone, you have found it. If it has not, the message would have named a different segment, which is the useful part of this family of codes.
How HMS 0700-2000-0002-0017 differs from the other segments
Resistance close to the unit is HMS 0700-2000-0002-0018, and the stretch towards the buffer is HMS 0700-2000-0002-0019. Reading which one you have saves you checking three metres of tube to find thirty centimetres of fault.
When it shows as a timeout instead
Marginal friction often appears first as HMS 0700-2000-0002-0010, a feed that never finishes. The routing is set out in the AMS hub guide and Bowden behaviour in direct drive versus Bowden.
HMS 0700-2000-0002-0017 FAQ
How gentle should the bend be?
As wide as the bench allows. There is no such thing as too gentle here.
Can I shorten the tube?
Only to the length the layout needs. Too short pulls on the fittings.
Does tube brand matter?
Bore consistency does. A tight, smooth bore is the whole point.
Why does it stall rather than slow down?
The motor has a current limit. Past it, it stops rather than forcing.
Some messages tell you where to look. HMS 0500-0300-0001-0007 reports a toolhead expansion module fault and asks you to inspect the wiring connections, which is a better instruction than a bare restart.
