HMS 0500-0300-0001-000C — MC motor controller malfunctioning
Short answer

HMS 0500-0300-0001-000C means the MC motor controller module is malfunctioning, and asks you to power off, check the connection, and restart. MC is the main controller board, and a module fault there is reported before it turns into missed steps you can see in the print.

A controller that is overheating behaves exactly like one that is failing, and the first of those you can fix.

The board that drives the motion system. Power off before you look.

Where to buy

Check what the drivers are sitting on

Stepper drivers shed heat through a pad into the board or a heatsink, and a dried-out thermal compound turns a warm driver into a hot one. A syringe of decent paste costs a few dollars and is the cheapest thing on this page.

Keep the screws where you can find them

Reaching the controller means removing a panel and a dozen fasteners of two or three lengths. A compartment organiser box keeps them in order, and order is what stops a long screw going into a short hole.

Light the board properly

A clamp-on magnifier lamp over the bench shows a scorched trace or a swollen capacitor that overhead light hides. You are looking for discolouration, and discolouration is a lighting problem before it is an eyesight problem.

Then check the connection the message names

Power off at the wall, unseat and reseat each connector on the board, and look at the pins as you do it. The instruction says check the connection for a reason.

How HMS 0500-0300-0001-000C relates to the toolhead codes

The toolhead reports HMS 0500-0300-0001-0002 and the expansion module HMS 0500-0300-0001-0007. All three are module faults, and the one named is the one to open.

What it looks like in the print

Controller problems that go unaddressed show up as missed steps and offset layers — see layer shifting. A related module code is HMS 0500-0300-0003-0022.

HMS 0500-0300-0001-000C FAQ

What does MC stand for?

The main controller: the board that drives the motion system.

Is this a board replacement?

Not necessarily. Check connections and cooling first.

Can heat cause it?

Yes. A hot driver reports faults a cool one does not.

Should I open the machine?

Powered off, yes. The message asks you to check the connection.

Some subsystems need calibrating rather than checking. HMS 0500-0400-0002-0035 means the laser module needs mounting calibration to find its focus, and it decides every cut depth after it.
