HMS 0300-E000-0001-0001 — Hotend holder motor open circuit
Short answer

HMS 0300-E000-0001-0001 means the hotend holder motor is disconnected or has an open-circuit fault, and asks you to check the motor flat cable connection. On a part that moves with the toolhead, the cable is a far more likely culprit than the motor.

Flat flexible cable is reliable until it is asked to flex at one point a few hundred thousand times. Then it breaks at that point and nowhere else.

The message names the flat cable. Flat cables fail at the fold.

Where to buy

Have a replacement cable before you need one

An FFC ribbon cable in the right pin count and pitch costs a few pounds. Measure the pitch and count the conductors before ordering: 0.5 mm and 1.0 mm look identical in a photograph and will not fit each other.

Protect the run you just repaired

Split braided sleeving over the loom stops the cable rubbing on an edge, which is the other way these fail. It also keeps the bend radius generous instead of letting the cable fold on itself.

See what you are working on

A head-mounted magnifier with a light shows a hairline crack in a conductor that is invisible at arm length. These connectors are small, and a lifted latch looks seated until you look properly.

Then reseat and test the easy way

Unlatch the ZIF connector fully, reseat the cable square, latch it and retest. A fault that comes back only when the toolhead is at one end of its travel is a broken conductor, not a loose plug.

How HMS 0300-E000-0001-0001 differs from a stall

A motor that is connected but jammed gives HMS 0300-E000-0001-0004. Open circuit means the machine cannot reach the motor at all.

When the rack itself is the fault

The induction hotend rack has its own code in HMS 0500-0300-0001-000D. How these motors are driven is covered in stepper motors and the hotend in hotends.

HMS 0300-E000-0001-0001 FAQ

Is it the motor or the cable?

Statistically the cable. Check it first, it is free.

Can I reuse a cracked FFC?

No. A cracked conductor is an intermittent fault forever.

Which pitch do I need?

Measure it. 0.5 mm and 1.0 mm are not interchangeable.

Does printing still work?

Not reliably. The rack has to move for the toolhead to work.

Another motor whose message points at the cable first. HMS 07FE-8100-0001-0001 means the extruder switching motor is working abnormally, and a stepper fed one intermittent phase behaves exactly like a failing motor.
