HMS 0300-2D00-0001-0006: heatbed levelling failed

HMS 0300-2D00-0001-0006 means heatbed levelling failed, and the printer asks you to remove any debris and retry. That instruction is right most of the time, but it hides a useful distinction: levelling can fail because a reading was impossible, or because the readings were possible and did not make sense together. Those have different fixes.
Affected machines: A2L and H2C. Levelling is the machine measuring a grid of points and building a map of the bed. A single point it cannot measure, or one that disagrees wildly with its neighbours, is enough to make the whole map untrustworthy.

Where to buy
Debris, nozzle, then plate
Debris first, because it is the most common and the cheapest. Look on the plate, under it, and on the nozzle tip. Anything that lifts one probe point is enough, and a bead of filament welded to the magnetic base under the sheet is the classic hidden version.
The nozzle is second. On these machines the nozzle is part of the measurement, so a skirt of cooked plastic on the tip makes every point read differently, and the machine sees a bed that has moved rather than a nozzle that has changed.
The plate is third. If the same low point survives a proper wash and appears in the same place on every run, the sheet has been dented. Meshes can compensate for a bed that is tilted or gently curved; they cannot compensate for a sharp dent, and the firmware knows it.
Levelling aborts and the printer asks you to clear debris and retry
Debris on or under the plate, cooked filament on the nozzle, or a dented sheet
- Power off and let the bed cool to a temperature you can work at.
- Lift the sheet and clean both its underside and the magnetic base beneath it.
- Clean the nozzle tip warm, at around 150 degC, with a brass brush.
- Wash the plate with dish soap and warm water, dry it, and handle it by the edges from then on.
- Refit the plate square against its locating features and run levelling again.
- If it fails in the same place a second time, look at the mesh for a sharp low point, which means the sheet is damaged.
Do not use isopropyl alcohol as the only cleaner on a PEI sheet. It removes oils but leaves the residue that builds up over time, which is why a soap and water wash every few weeks does more for levelling than any amount of wiping.

Check under the sheet and on the nozzle tip. Both are part of the measurement and both are easy to overlook.
Can a warped plate be fixed?
A gentle curve is compensated by the mesh. A sharp dent cannot be flattened and needs a new sheet.
Does the plate type change the result?
It changes the surface, not the geometry. Any correctly sized sheet that sits flat will level.
How often should I wash the plate?
With soap and water every few weeks of regular printing, and any time adhesion starts to drift.
