HMS 0300-1800-0001-0004: the extrusion force sensor feels filament resistance and enables jam detection, so clearing the filament path comes before suspecting the sensor.

Two reasons for an out-of-band signal: a real blockage should be cleared first, a communications fault needs a power cycle and reseating, and a damaged sensor needs service.

Why a blockage can fake a sensor fault

This sensor measures how hard the extruder is pushing. That is how the printer notices a jam before it ruins a print. But the relationship works in both directions: a genuine blockage puts the reading far outside its normal band, and the firmware cannot always tell an impossible reading from a broken sensor.

So clearing the filament path is not a detour on the way to diagnosing this code. It is part of the diagnosis, and it is the step most likely to make the code go away.

Code appears during loading, during calibration, or when the machine tries to detect a jam

Most likely cause

Damaged force sensor, or abnormal MC to toolhead communication

The fix
  1. Power off at the wall for thirty seconds and power back on, which clears transient communication faults.
  2. Reseat the toolhead cable at both ends and inspect the flexing section for damage.
  3. Remove filament and check the extruder path for a blockage pressing on the sensor, which can produce an out-of-range reading from a healthy sensor.
  4. Clean filament dust from around the drive gears, since accumulated debris changes what the sensor feels.
  5. If the fault survives a clean path and a reseated cable, the sensor itself needs service.

This is one of the codes where no consumer-level replacement part exists. The sensor is integrated into the toolhead assembly, so a genuine sensor failure is a warranty or service question rather than a shelf part. What is listed below are the tools to diagnose it, not a part to swap.
