HMS 0300-0D00-0001-0003 affects the Bambu X1 series. Three things must be right for the plate: square to its locating features, fully seated on the magnets, and clean underneath.
Short answer

HMS 0300-0D00-0001-0003 means the printer thinks the build plate is not where it should be. The check runs before printing, and it catches three different situations with one message: a sheet that is rotated, one that is not fully down on its magnets, and one with something trapped underneath it.

Difficulty easy Time 10-20 min Parts usually nothing Tools Dish soap, tweezers

Affected machines: X1 series. The plate is magnetic and removable, which is what makes part removal easy and what makes seating it correctly your job rather than the machine’s.

Cost of settling HMS 0300-0D00-0001-0003: a nozzle cleaning kit is about 13 dollars, a replacement build plate 16 dollars, and a Bambu dual-sided PEI plate 36 dollars.
Refitting the sheet costs nothing. A new plate is only needed when the old one is dented or has lost its flatness.

The three ways a plate sits wrong

Rotated. The sheet has locating features for a reason. A plate fitted a quarter turn out puts its whole reference in the wrong place, and every measured point lands somewhere the firmware does not expect.

Not fully down. A sheet that is caught on a raised edge, or that has been dropped into place rather than laid down, sits a fraction high at one corner. That is enough.

Something underneath. The classic and the most annoying, because the plate looks perfect. A bead of purge, a fragment of a failed print or a scrap of packaging under the sheet lifts a corner invisibly.

Symptom

Printer refuses to start and says the build plate may not be properly placed

Most likely cause

Plate rotated, not fully seated, or debris trapped underneath

The fix
  1. Power off and let the bed cool enough to handle the plate safely.
  2. Lift the plate completely off rather than sliding it, so you can see the magnetic base.
  3. Wipe the base and the underside of the sheet, checking for a bead of filament welded to either.
  4. Wash the top surface with dish soap and warm water if it has not been cleaned recently.
  5. Lay the plate down square against its locating features rather than dropping it into place.
  6. Power up and let the check run. If it still fails, look for a dent by running levelling and reading the mesh.

Handle the sheet by its edges from then on. Fingerprints are the reason most plates need washing, and a plate that gets washed less often is one that sits flatter for longer.

The related fault is abnormal heatbed levelling data. Our pages on Bambu build plates and plate cleaning cover the surface itself, and bed levelling explains the mesh.

HMS 0300-0D00-0001-0003 FAQ

Does it matter which way round the plate goes?

Yes. Use the locating features every time, because they set the reference the mesh is built against.

The plate looks perfectly flat. Why the message?

Look underneath. A bead of filament on the magnetic base is invisible with the sheet on.

Can I use a third-party plate?

Yes, if it is the right size and thickness and sits flat. A thicker sheet changes the reference.

How do I know if the plate is dented?

Run levelling and read the mesh. A dent shows as a low spot that stays in the same place after cleaning.
