Diagram: K1 build volume 220 by 220 by 250 mm, shown against a 256 mm class reference, with max nozzle 300 C and max bed 100 C.
Short answer

The K1 was the first mainstream 600 mm/s enclosed CoreXY under the Bambu price point: 220 × 220 × 250 mm, 300 °C, 100 °C bed, Klipper underneath. It is a capable PLA, PETG and ABS printer whose stock extruder and brass nozzle aged badly. Buy it only used or heavily discounted; at anything near new price, the K1C is the same machine with the faults fixed. This assessment is from manufacturer data and owner reports, not our own unit.

What holds up

  • The motion system. Acceleration of 20000 mm/s² and input shaping make it a fast, clean PLA printer once tuned; see input shaping.
  • The enclosure. ABS and ASA hold together at 220 mm without drama.
  • The community. Rooted firmware, mainline Klipper conversions and a large mod library. See K1 upgrades.

What does not

  • The extruder, which suffers heat creep on long prints and grinds abrasive filament. The K1C extruder is the standard replacement.
  • The brass nozzle, which wears quickly on filled filament and is fiddly to swap compared with the K1C quick-swap unit.
  • Bed sensing misses when the nozzle is dirty, producing bad first layers. Wipe the tip before every job.

The price test

Add the cost of a K1C extruder, a hardened nozzle and a camera to a K1 and compare with a K1C listing. If the K1 is still cheaper by a margin that pays for your time, buy it. If not, the K1C is the better machine from day one and carries the CFS option on the 2025 revision.

The units in the box

The original K1 is rarely listed new on Amazon US now; the listings are the K1C and the K1 Max.

FAQ

Is the K1 discontinued? Creality lists the K1C in its place; K1 stock is sold through.

Can the K1 print carbon fibre? Only after a hardened nozzle and, ideally, the K1C extruder.
