Short answer

An enclosure on the A1 makes small ABS and ASA parts printable and keeps drafts and dust off, but the A1 was designed to run in open air: its power supply and electronics sit inside the frame, and the toolhead cooling assumes room-temperature air. Use an A1-specific enclosure with a vent, keep the door open for PLA, and treat 40 °C as the ceiling.

The A1 is a bed-slinger with the bed travelling front to back and the spool and AMS lite to one side, so a generic tent has to be deep enough for the bed travel and wide enough for the AMS lite. Enclosures made for the A1 solve that with the right footprint and a cut-out for the AMS lite feed. The thermal question is separate: the A1 sheds heat through its frame and cools its toolhead with room air, so an enclosure that holds ABS temperatures also warms the electronics. It works for small parts; it is not the same as an enclosed printer.

What to check

  • Listed for the A1, with internal depth covering the bed at its front stop and width for the AMS lite or a filament pass-through for an external spool.
  • A vent port for ABS and ASA fumes and to keep the chamber from overheating.
  • Clear front and top so the A1’s camera and your eyes still see the first layer.
  • Cable and filament pass-throughs so the spool or dryer can sit outside.
  • Flame-retardant liner and room for a smoke detector above.

The enclosures in the box

The two TOPCUBE enclosures are sized for the A1 with the AMS lite fitted, with LED lighting; the third is a ventilated enclosure for Bambu Lab printers. Check each listing’s internal dimensions against the A1 with the bed forward and the AMS lite in place.

Using it without cooking the printer

  1. PLA and PETG: door open or vent open. Above 35 °C PLA heat-creeps and clogs.
  2. ABS and ASA: close it, warm to 35 to 40 °C, print small parts. Watch for cracks on tall parts; the A1 cannot hold a proper ABS chamber.
  3. Keep the AMS lite outside the heated space if the enclosure allows; PLA in a warm AMS softens.
  4. Smoke detector above the enclosure, always.

When not to bother

If you want to print ABS or ASA regularly, an enclosed printer is the right tool, not an A1 in a tent. For PLA and PETG the A1 needs no enclosure; a draught screen or a quiet corner does the job. See ASA versus ABS for what those materials actually need.

FAQ

Does an enclosure void the A1 warranty? Not by itself. Damage from overheating is another matter; keep it under 40 °C.

Will the AMS lite fit inside? In A1-specific enclosures, yes; check the listing.

Is the A1 mini enclosure the same? No; smaller footprint. See the A1 mini guide.
