HMS 1A00-1200-0002-0008 — Tool lock rod position abnormal
Short answer

HMS 1A00-1200-0002-0008 means the rod that locks a hotend into the rack is not where the machine expects it to be, and Bambu asks you to look for foreign objects or obstructions causing it to jam. A rod that cannot complete its travel reports its position as abnormal rather than as failed.

The part is small, it moves in one direction, and you can see it. That makes this one of the easier faults in the group.

One moving rod, one likely cause, and a cleaning job rather than a part.

Where to buy

Find the rod and watch it move

With the power off, locate the lock rod on the rack and work it through its travel by hand if the mechanism allows. You are feeling for a point where it stiffens, not for general resistance. A rod that stops short at the same place every time has something at that place.

What jams it

Filament fragments and purge beads are small enough to enter the channel and hard enough to stop the rod. So is a sliver shaved off a hotend face by a forced swap. Lift debris out with a pick or tweezers rather than pushing it further along the channel. Where that debris comes from is covered in HMS 1A00-0100-0002-0026.

Clean, then move, then lubricate

Clear first and confirm the travel is restored. Only then add a dry film lubricant, and only at the rod rather than across the surrounding surfaces. Wet oil in a printer becomes a dust paste within weeks, which is how a cleaned mechanism ends up stiffer than before.

How HMS 1A00-1200-0002-0008 relates to the detach failure

Both are latch problems, at opposite ends of the swap. The toolhead lever that will not release is HMS 1A00-0100-0002-0024; this is the rack side of the same idea. Seeing both suggests debris generation rather than two mechanisms wearing at once.

When it is not debris

A rod with clear travel and a still-abnormal position reading points at the sensing or at the rack geometry, and an out-of-range calibration is HMS 1A00-1200-0002-0003. Hotend construction is covered in 3D printing hotends.

HMS 1A00-1200-0002-0008 FAQ

Can I move the rod by hand?

Gently, with the machine idle, and only as far as it wants to go. Forcing it bends it.

Will it clear itself?

No. Debris does not leave on its own, and retrying grinds it in.

Is the rod replaceable?

It is part of the rack assembly, so cleaning is the practical fix.

Why after a filament change?

Because changes generate purge, and purge fragments are exactly the right size to enter the channel.

There is one more check before the latch closes. HMS 1A00-1200-0002-0011 stops when the hotend cannot be confirmed, which costs a retry instead of a mount.
