HMS 0700-2000-0001-0081 — AMS main board may be malfunctioning
Short answer

HMS 0700-2000-0001-0081 means the AMS failed to read the filament information from Slot 1 and that the AMS main board may be malfunctioning. Of the three codes that report a failed read, this is the only one that points at the board rather than at the tag.

Before you accept that, note what the board has to be doing for the read to work at all: powering the reader, talking to the printer, and answering for all four slots.

The heaviest of the three read-failure codes, and the only one that blames the board.

Where to buy

Test whether it is really all four slots

Move the spool to another slot. A read failure that follows the spool is a tag problem; one that stays behind on every slot is the board. That costs nothing and settles the most expensive question in the message.

Keep the screws in order when you open it

An AMS comes apart into fasteners of three different lengths, and putting a long one where a short one belongs cracks a boss. A magnetic parts tray holds them where a bench surface does not, which matters more than it sounds when you are an hour in.

Photograph or map the layout

A magnetic project mat with a marked grid lets you put each screw where it came from. Reassembly is where most home repairs go wrong, not disassembly.

Label the looms before you unplug anything

Several connectors on an AMS board are the same shape and carry different things. Wire labels take two minutes and remove an entire class of mistake you would otherwise find out about by a smell.

How HMS 0700-2000-0001-0081 differs from a tag fault

A damaged tag reports HMS 0700-2000-0001-0083 instead. The distinction is worth reading carefully, because one of them is a sticker and the other is a service part.

When the slot hardware is involved

A broken tube or a faulty feed-out sensor inside the unit gives HMS 0700-2000-0002-0023, which is a different repair again. The unit’s internal layout is described in the AMS hub guide and the generations in AMS 2 Pro versus AMS.

HMS 0700-2000-0001-0081 FAQ

Can I still print?

Yes, with filament settings entered by hand.

Should I open the AMS?

Only after the slot-swap test, and only if you are comfortable doing so.

Is a firmware update worth trying?

Yes. Do it before concluding the board has failed.

Does this affect all four slots?

If the board is genuinely at fault, usually yes. That is the test.
