HMS 0700-2000-0001-0083: AMS RFID Tag May Be Damaged

HMS 0700-2000-0001-0083 means the AMS could not read the filament information from Slot 1 and that the RFID tag may be damaged. The tag is a thin adhesive label on the spool, so the fix is measured in pennies rather than in service parts.
Tags get creased when a spool is dropped, soaked when filament is washed, and peeled when reels are stacked. All three are visible.

Where to buy
Replace it with a tag that survives handling
Blank PVC NFC cards in the NTAG215 family are tougher than paper stickers and take the same data. On a spool that gets pulled in and out of the AMS weekly, the card outlasts the filament.
Label the spool in plain writing too
Write-on removable labels mean you still know what is on the reel when the electronics give up. It sounds obvious; it is the step people skip and then regret with four identical black spools.
Clean the tag face before you decide
A film of release agent or dust over the tag weakens the coupling enough to fail a read. Isopropyl wipes take it off in one pass and cost almost nothing, and sometimes that is the whole repair.
Then rule out the reader
Put a spool you know reads correctly into the same slot. If that one reads, the tag was the problem and you are finished. Tagging a bare reel is covered in the A1 AMS guide.
How HMS 0700-2000-0001-0083 differs from a placement fault
A tag that is intact but sitting in the wrong place gives HMS 0700-2000-0001-0084, which names the edge of the antenna explicitly. Same symptom, different fix.
And when it is not the tag at all
If every spool fails in every slot, read HMS 0700-2000-0001-0081, which blames the main board. Identification and spool handling are covered in printers with an AMS.
HMS 0700-2000-0001-0083 FAQ
Can I print without a tag?
Yes. Set the material and colour manually in the slot.
Do third-party spools have tags?
Mostly not. You can add a writable one.
Will any NFC tag work?
NTAG-family tags are the ones people use successfully.
Does moisture damage tags?
It can lift the adhesive and corrode the antenna, yes.
