HMS 0500-0400-0001-0001 — Failed to download the print job
Short answer

HMS 0500-0400-0001-0001 means the printer failed to download the print job and asks you to check your network connection. The file never reached the machine, so nothing about the model or the slicer settings is involved yet.

Printers live in the worst places in a house for wireless, and a job download is the largest single transfer they make.

The job never arrived. That is a network problem before it is a printer problem.
The job never arrived. That is a network problem before it is a printer problem.

Where to buy

Give the printer a wired port of its own

A five-port gigabit switch beside the bench turns one cable run into four, and it costs less than a spool of filament. A printer on a wired link stops being a network problem entirely.

Protect that run where it leaves the building

If the cable crosses to a garage or an outbuilding, an inline Ethernet surge protector saves the printer’s network port from the kind of spike that travels down a long run. It is a one-off part on a cable you will not rewire again.

Make your own cable the right length

An RJ45 crimp tool with a pack of connectors lets you terminate a run to the exact length instead of coiling three spare metres behind the machine. A tidy run is also one that stays connected.

Then retry the job, not the printer

Resend from the slicer rather than power-cycling. A download that fails twice from a wired connection is a different problem, and the message would change.

How HMS 0500-0400-0001-0001 differs from a bad file

A job that arrives but will not parse gives HMS 0500-0400-0001-0003. Download failed means nothing arrived at all, which is why the fix is upstream of the printer.

When a job stops partway instead

An interrupted print that will not pick up again is HMS 0500-0400-0001-0006. The machine and its connectivity are described in the X1 Carbon and monitoring in printer cameras.

HMS 0500-0400-0001-0001 FAQ

Is wireless good enough?

Often, but not under a steel bench two walls from the router.

Does the file size matter?

Large multi-colour jobs fail first on a marginal link.

Should I power-cycle the printer?

Resend the job first. The printer is not the thing that failed.

Can I print from a drive instead?

Yes, and that is the right workaround while you fix the network.

A broken path reports differently inside the machine. HMS 0300-9300-0001-0008 means the temperature sensor at the power supply may have an open circuit, and the useful question there is where the break is rather than whether there is one.
