HMS 0500-0300-0001-0024 — Temperature too low, printing blocked
Short answer

HMS 0500-0300-0001-0024 means the current temperature is too low, and that to protect you and the printer, printing, axis movement and other operations are blocked. Nothing is broken: the machine is in a room too cold to operate in safely.

It appears on A1-series machines in garages and unheated rooms, usually on the first genuinely cold morning of the year.

Not a fault. A refusal, and a sensible one.
Not a fault. A refusal, and a sensible one.

Where to buy

Warm the room, not the printer

A small ceramic heater brings a garage or spare room up to a workable temperature in half an hour, and it is a far better answer than trying to warm the machine itself. Lubricants stiffen and belts lose tension when a printer is cold; the room is the right thing to fix.

Find out how cold it actually gets overnight

A cheap indoor thermometer left on the bench overnight tells you what the room actually does when you are not in it, which is the number that matters. Most people are surprised by it, and it decides whether you need a heater or an enclosure.

Keep the heat around the machine

An enclosure tent holds a few degrees above ambient from the printer’s own waste heat alone, which is often all this code needs. It also keeps the dust off, which matters more than people expect.

Then let it come up to temperature before you start

Give the machine twenty minutes in a warmed room before you ask it to move. A printer that has just been carried in from a cold car will report this whatever the room says.

How HMS 0500-0300-0001-0024 differs from a module fault

The chamber control module failing is HMS 0500-0300-0001-0023. This code is a measurement of the room, and the machine is working exactly as intended by refusing.

The cheapest long-term fix

An enclosure, home-made or bought — see building your own enclosure and the enclosure guide. Cold-room warping is covered in PLA warping.

HMS 0500-0300-0001-0024 FAQ

How cold is too cold?

Below roughly fifteen degrees Celsius it starts refusing.

Can I override it?

No, and you should not want to. Cold moves badly.

Will an enclosure be enough?

Often yes, from waste heat alone. Measure first.

Why does it block axis movement too?

Because cold grease and belts are what get damaged.
