HMS 0300-2500-0001-0004 — Sensor signal is abnormal
Short answer

HMS 0300-2500-0001-0004 means the eddy current sensor signal of the extruder is abnormal, and that the sensor may be damaged or the MC-TH communication may be abnormal. Those are two very different repairs, and the cheap one to rule out first is the communication path.

MC-TH is the link between the main controller and the toolhead. Treat it as a wiring question first.

Two candidates named: the sensor, or the MC-TH communication.

Where to buy

Suppress the noise on that link

Stepper drivers and heaters throw high-frequency noise at every cable near them, and a data link that picks it up delivers corrupted readings rather than none. Clip-on ferrite cores on the toolhead loom are the standard answer and take ten seconds to fit.

Separate the bundle

Signal wiring sharing a bundle with motor and heater leads is how clean machines become noisy ones. Spiral cable wrap keeps the data link as its own run, which costs a dollar and removes the coupling rather than masking it.

Work on an earthed surface

If you are going to have the toolhead open, an anti-static mat on the bench gives everything you remove a safe place to sit. Boards damaged by static fail later and look like a new fault.

Then decide which of the two it is

If the fault follows the toolhead to another machine, it is the sensor. If it stays with the machine, it is the link. That test costs nothing and settles the question the message leaves open, and on a two-head machine you have the spare head to try it with — see dual extruder printers.

How HMS 0300-2500-0001-0004 relates to silence

No data at all is HMS 0300-2500-0001-0003. This code means data arrives and is wrong, which is the signature of interference rather than a break.

The same pattern elsewhere on the machine

The heatbed acceleration sensor has an identical complaint in HMS 0300-1B00-0001-0002, and the fix there is also wiring. Vibration artefacts that follow are covered in layer shifting.

HMS 0300-2500-0001-0004 FAQ

What is MC-TH?

The link between the main controller and the toolhead. It carries this sensor’s data.

Do ferrite cores really help?

For corrupted data on a moving loom, they are the cheapest thing that does.

Can firmware fix it?

Update anyway, but noise is physical and firmware will not remove it.

Is the sensor likely dead?

Less likely than the link. Rule out the cheap cause first.
