Resin printers do not get slower as you fill the plate. A layer exposes all at once, so a full plate takes the same time as a single figure. Why plate area is the only spec that matters here

On an FDM printer, doubling the number of parts roughly doubles the time. On MSLA it does not: the light engine cures an entire layer in one exposure, so twenty models take the same run as one, provided they fit. Buying a larger resin printer is therefore buying batch size, not speed. If you print one model at a time, a large machine gains you almost nothing and costs you a great deal more resin per fill.

What Elegoo lists for the Jupiter 2

Elegoo lists the Jupiter 2 as a large-format 16K MSLA machine. We have not independently verified its build volume or exposure figures against a manufacturer specification sheet, so treat the listing numbers as the manufacturer claim rather than a measured result. The comparison that matters is against a standard desktop MSLA: the Saturn 4 Ultra sits in the normal desktop class, and the Anycubic Photon Mono M7 MAX sits between the two at 13.6 inches.

The costs nobody mentions

A bigger vat holds more resin, and resin does not keep indefinitely once it is in the vat. Filling a large machine for a single small part is expensive. Washing and curing scale badly too: a plate that no longer fits your wash station means either a bigger station or washing in batches by hand. Budget for the wash and cure equipment at the same time, not afterwards.

Safety scales with the machine

Uncured resin is a skin sensitiser and the fumes need ventilation. A larger vat means more surface area evaporating into the room and more liquid to spill when something goes wrong. Nitrile gloves, eye protection, a ventilated space and a plan for waste resin are not optional at this size. Never pour uncured resin down a drain; cure the waste solid first and dispose of it as solid plastic.

Does a bigger resin printer print faster? Not per part. It prints more parts in the same run, which is a different and usually more valuable thing.

Can I use the same resin as my desktop machine? Usually yes, but exposure settings do not transfer between machines. Run an exposure test on the new printer.

Is 16K resolution worth it? It matters for fine detail at small scale. For functional or large parts, plate area and reliable adhesion matter more.
