Nozzle threads: MK8, V6, Volcano and the Bambu format

Thread size alone does not tell you if a nozzle fits. MK8 and V6 share an M6 thread but differ in length and shoulder, so a V6 nozzle in an MK8 heater block leaves a gap that fills with molten plastic. Match the format, not just the thread.
This is the most expensive mistake in the parts category, because the failure is not obvious immediately. A nozzle that is nearly right seals well enough to print for a while, then leaks into the heater block and welds everything together.

What actually determines fit
Three dimensions matter together: the thread, the overall length from shoulder to tip, and how the nozzle seats against the heatbreak inside the block. Get the thread right and the length wrong and the nozzle either does not reach the heatbreak, leaving a molten plastic reservoir, or bottoms out before it seals.

Tighten hot, not cold
The seal between nozzle and heatbreak is metal on metal and both expand. Tighten a nozzle cold and it loosens as the block heats, then leaks. The correct sequence is: heat to printing temperature, then nip it up while hot, holding the heater block with a spanner so you are not putting torque through the heatbreak.
You are working on a block at 250 degC. Use two spanners, wear a glove on the hand holding the block, and never grip the heatbreak or the heatsink to resist the torque — you will snap it.
If you are unsure, do not guess
Check what your machine’s manufacturer sells as a replacement and match that format. A nozzle costs a few dollars; a hotend does not.
