HMS 0700-1000-0002-0004 — Brushed motor has no signal
Short answer

HMS 0700-1000-0002-0004 means AMS brushed motor 1 has no signal, which may be due to poor contact in the motor connector or a motor fault. Brushed motors in an AMS drive the feed rollers, and they are among the few genuinely wearing parts in the unit.

A brushed motor wears its brushes out. When it does, it stops in a position and reports nothing, which is what this message describes.

Poor contact at the connector, or a motor that has stopped. Both testable.

Where to buy

Have a comparable motor to test against

A small 12 V geared DC motor gives you a known-good load to prove the driver with. If the driver spins a bench motor happily, the fault is downstream of it.

Drive it off the machine

A PWM speed controller lets you run the suspect motor from a bench supply and listen to it. A motor that runs smoothly on the bench and not in the AMS points at the connector, not the motor.

Remount it properly when you refit

Heat-set threaded inserts give a plastic bracket a metal thread that will survive being undone more than twice. Stripped plastic threads are how a motor ends up slightly misaligned and drawing more current.

Then check the connector under movement

Reseat the motor plug and flex it gently while watching. Intermittent means contact; permanently absent means the motor or its wiring.

How HMS 0700-1000-0002-0004 differs from a coil fault

An actuator coil out of specification is HMS 0700-8D00-0002-0008. This code is a drive motor rather than a solenoid.

When the position signal is what fails

A buffer position error is HMS 0700-4000-0002-0002. How printer motors are driven is covered in stepper motors and the unit in printers with an AMS.

HMS 0700-1000-0002-0004 FAQ

Are brushed motors a wear part?

Yes. That is the trade for being cheap and simple.

Can I substitute any 12 V motor?

For bench testing, yes. For fitting, match the original.

What does no signal mean exactly?

The controller sees no response at all from that motor.

Will the AMS still feed?

Not from that slot. Others may continue.

First-time setups hide one step people skip. HMS 0500-0400-0002-0034 means a laser module was detected for the first time, and it asks you to remove the shipping screw holding the air pump.
