Prusa Error 13211: Heatbreak MINTEMP on the Nextruder

Prusa error 13211 is the heatbreak thermistor reading below its minimum. The Nextruder has two temperature sensors — one in the heater block and a second on the heatbreak above it — and this error is about the second one. MINTEMP almost always means an open circuit rather than a genuinely cold printer, so check the connector and the cable before anything else.
This one confuses people because the hotend appears to be working perfectly. It is: the sensor that failed is not the one controlling the melt temperature. It is the one watching for heat creeping up the heatbreak, which is what stops jams on all-metal paths.

What the heatbreak sensor is for
Heat creep is the failure mode of every all-metal hotend: heat migrates up past the break, softens filament in the cold zone, and jams it. Monitoring the heatbreak lets the firmware notice that happening rather than waiting for the jam. Losing the sensor does not stop the printer melting plastic, but it does remove that protection — which is why the error is a stop rather than a warning.
Check in this order
- Reseat the connector. The heatbreak lead is thin and sits inside a crowded loom. It is the commonest cause by a distance.
- Inspect the flex point. Same bundle as the heater and part fan, bending every layer. Look for a break at the tightest curve.
- Genuinely cold workshop. On a very cold start the reading can legitimately sit below the valid range once. Warm the room and power-cycle before assuming hardware.
- Replace the thermistor. Only after the first two, and only if flexing the cable does not change the reading.
Related codes
13205 is the heatbed reading above range, the opposite direction of fault. 13204 is thermal runaway on the main hotend sensor. 13213 is the control board. What the heatbreak physically does is covered in hotend anatomy. On other Prusa models this error reads 12211 (MINI), 17211 (XL), 31211 (CORE One) or 23211 (MK3.5).
Prusa Error 13211 FAQ
Why does the hotend still work if this sensor failed?
Because the heater block has its own separate thermistor. The heatbreak sensor is a protection device, not the one regulating melt temperature.
Is MINTEMP a cold printer or a broken wire?
Almost always a broken or disconnected wire. A genuinely cold printer trips this only in an unheated space in winter, and only once at startup.
Can I disable the heatbreak sensor?
No, and you should not want to. It is what warns you about heat creep before it jams the extruder mid-print.
Does this affect print quality?
Not directly — the printer stops instead. What it protects against, heat creep, very much does affect prints once it starts.
